Adeline Virginia Woolf (/ˈwʊlf/; 25 January 1882 – 28 March 1941) was an English writer, and one of the foremost modernists of the twentieth century. During the interwar period, Woolf was a significant figure in London literary society and a central figure in the influential Bloomsbury Group of intellectuals. Her most famous works include the novels Mrs Dalloway (1925), To the Lighthouse (1927) and Orlando (1928), and the book-length essay A Room of One's Own (1929), with its famous dictum, "A woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction." LITERATURE MEME | 6 prose writers - (2) william shakespeare

Information about William Shakespeare is often open to doubt, due to the lack of available and reliable resources. We know that he was born in Stratford upon Avon around April 23, 1564, to a local businessman and his wife, the daughter of a landowner. The relatively prosperous family paid for Shakespeare's education. In 1582 he was married to Anne Hathaway and had four children with her, although their son Hamnet died at the age of eleven. After his marriage Shakespeare spent a great deal of time in London writing and performing plays, as well as the majority of his sonnets.

Shakespeare wrote 154 sonnets, mostly in the 1590s. His sonnets have an enduring appeal due to his clever skill with language. His plays have been studied more than any other body of writing in the English language.

Shakespeare died in 1664 and his tombstone is marked with the epitaph:

"Good friend for Jesus sake forebear

To dig the dust encloased heare

Blessed by y man y spares hes stones

And curse be he y moves my bones."
